[ It's been a few days since the first arrivals trickled in to this iteration of the monastery, and there's been some improvement to the area, at least.

Which is fortunate, really, because the clouds have finally decided to open up and let out a torrential downpour.

The grass out in the courtyard almost immediately becomes saturated with water, squishing beneath people's feet as they step through it. Drainage in the monastery is a real problem in some parts, particularly near the marketplace area. Slowly, as time passes, pools begin to form, though some of the remaining debris serves as a decent buffer between the water and whatever crates merchants may have left behind. It may be a good idea to salvage some of that, though it's not likely to be ruined thanks to said debris. In general, it's likely a rude awakening for any new arrivals.

Of course, some would say that rainy days are the best when it comes to fishing; some would even say they're right, given how the fish seem to be out in droves at the lake. If one didn't mind potentially getting soaked, they could bring in a real haul during this rainstorm. The dining hall is not nearly as well stocked as it had been in its heyday, so this could potentially be beneficial for the community.

For some, it's likely best to stay inside and find shelter from the rain. Thankfully, most of the monastery roofing seems to be intact, save for a few sizeable holes in the cathedral. Still, that doesn't mean there isn't a leak here and there, so watch your step, particularly in the dining hall and the second floor of the dormitories as well. It might not be a bad idea to put a few buckets out to catch all that water . . .

[[ MORE HOUSEKEEPING, hey what's up guys:
  • please PM this journal if there are more setting changes you'd like to be noted! i.e. if your character did some sprucing up in the greenhouse, just let me know and I will update the setting page accordingly.
  • as noted on the "mod" plurk, I'll try putting up open posts roughly once a week going forward. it'll depend on how things are going, no big. ]]

...

[For a moment Bernadetta just stares and blinks, clutching at the towel.]

...oh. Oh! ...thank you, Hilda. I, uh... I guess I wasn't thinking about it.

[Girl, there is literally a puddle forming under you.]
axepectations: (don't you look foolish.)

If you push yourself too hard, you'll get sick. Especially in this weather!

[ She takes another towel and wraps it around herself, sitting down. ]

That's... probably true, actually...

[And brings up an important thought.]

Has anybody been harvesting medicinal herbs from the greenhouse? If somebody got sick we'd definitely need some...

[Bernie no, sit back down.]
axepectations: (what enemy looks like m bison?)

[personal profile] axepectations 2019-09-29 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I know of. That's a good idea, though.

[ She reaches across the table to grab a book, flipping it open to a page filled with other notes about the monastery, and scribbles in something about the greenhouse. ]

I think it's been lower priority compared to the dormitory and gathering other food and everything.

Yeah... I should try and find some decent linen that we can strip apart and boil clean so we have bandages on hand.

[Their attempts at reconstruction so far have been... very much the best efforts of a bunch of people who mainly have book diagrams to fall back on. Injuries are less of a possibility and more an eventuality, honestly.]

You could try looking near the north end of the reception hall. That's where there's a lot of old linens and stuff that we can't really use for anything else. There's not that much, honestly.

[ Like the furniture, it had all been pushed together and set aside — a problem for later, once the bigger issues were taken care of. ]

I'll do that when the weather breaks, I guess. I’ve been working on making a measuring tape with some scraps, so it would be good if we could find some nice cloth hidden away somewhere...

[They can’t just wear the same things all the time. Laundry has to get done somehow.]
axepectations: (do you even lift?)

[personal profile] axepectations 2019-09-30 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Cloth, huh? Was there ever any around the monastery before?

[ She furrows her brows, craning her neck to look off towards the reception hall. Something like that seemed a bit more niche, though. If only they had merchants around . . . ]

Well, the uniforms came from somewhere, right? Not just for the students, but the knights and clergy too. It’s a long shot, maybe, but... it’s a pretty big monastery. They might have missed something.
axepectations: (walk it off.)

[personal profile] axepectations 2019-09-30 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you're right about that. I mean, I doubt we've even scratched the surface when it comes to finding what's in storage at the monastery, you know?

[ Hilda leans back a bit, considering that. ]

I mean, now that you mention it, it was Seteth and the others with the Knights of Seiros who did a lot of the cleaning and the stuff with the supplies the last time. And sure, we had merchants and routes out of town and all that, but I'm pretty sure they took care of things even before that.

Old buildings usually have secret passageways, too.

[They all know of at least one.]

The monastery has always been fairly independent, it's true...

axepectations: (so do you have a holo blastoise?)

[personal profile] axepectations 2019-10-01 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That thought hadn't even occurred to me until you brought it up.

[ She tilts her head to the side, looking over at Bernadetta. She could at least tell that things had played out differently for her, but even then, Hilda had never exactly been close to her. It was hard, when she spent all her time shut away in her room. But so far, her ideas had been pretty good, if not scrappy in some ways. She had to respect that. ]

I wonder if there's anyone around here who'd know more about the building than we would . . . you know, to figure out all the secret passages and storage places and all of that.

Hmm...

[Her home had been a refuge, when she could use it to hide from her father.

She learned to use it very well.]

Well, maybe if Seteth or one of the . Knights showed up. Or somebody who lived here full-time, like, um... that boy. You know, the one always rushing to and fro for Lady Rhea.
axepectations: (spike it bitch! i mean. lady.)

[personal profile] axepectations 2019-10-02 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That boy?

[ She considers that for a moment, tapping at her chin. ]

— oh! Do you mean Cyril?

[personal profile] persecutetioncomplex 2019-10-05 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
...yes, probably. I'm not sure I ever got his name? He was always coming and going and, uh...

[Well, Bernadetta never did much of either if she could help it.]

I haven't seen him around here.

[ She moves on from that point easily, considering. ]

Buuut maybe I can remember where I saw him at when he was here, you know?
