[ It's been a few days since the first arrivals trickled in to this iteration of the monastery, and there's been some improvement to the area, at least.
Which is fortunate, really, because the clouds have finally decided to open up and let out a torrential downpour.
The grass out in the courtyard almost immediately becomes saturated with water, squishing beneath people's feet as they step through it. Drainage in the monastery is a real problem in some parts, particularly near the marketplace area. Slowly, as time passes, pools begin to form, though some of the remaining debris serves as a decent buffer between the water and whatever crates merchants may have left behind. It may be a good idea to salvage some of that, though it's not likely to be ruined thanks to said debris. In general, it's likely a rude awakening for any new arrivals.
Of course, some would say that rainy days are the best when it comes to fishing; some would even say they're right, given how the fish seem to be out in droves at the lake. If one didn't mind potentially getting soaked, they could bring in a real haul during this rainstorm. The dining hall is not nearly as well stocked as it had been in its heyday, so this could potentially be beneficial for the community.
For some, it's likely best to stay inside and find shelter from the rain. Thankfully, most of the monastery roofing seems to be intact, save for a few sizeable holes in the cathedral. Still, that doesn't mean there isn't a leak here and there, so watch your step, particularly in the dining hall and the second floor of the dormitories as well. It might not be a bad idea to put a few buckets out to catch all that water . . . ]

[[ MORE HOUSEKEEPING, hey what's up guys:
- please PM this journal if there are more setting changes you'd like to be noted! i.e. if your character did some sprucing up in the greenhouse, just let me know and I will update the setting page accordingly.
- as noted on the "mod" plurk, I'll try putting up open posts roughly once a week going forward. it'll depend on how things are going, no big. ]]
2nd floor dorms
For his part, he hadn't happened upon any of his classmates. Perhaps if he had, he might not be quite so uneasy as he walked along familiar halls, hair sticking to his face from the rain he'd only just escaped, his cape and the shoulders of his uniform bearing the worst evidence of his recent trek outdoors. He made his way towards his room, curious to see what condition it might be in. The bed, at least, was in the condition it usually was. But the books and other items around had been moved, other things added even.
His brows furrowed, and he sighed, shoulders dropping slightly. It would have been nice to find something familiar and untouched. But then the sound of someone in the room beside his own caught his attention. He moved quickly into the hallway in time to see the back of someone who... might be Felix? The build was correct so was their hair color, and the walk was undeniably Felix. But the clothing. Still, he chanced it- )
Felix?

felix stops dead in his tracks when he hears that voice call out to him. it's familiar, very familiar even, and that's the part that confuses him. for a moment he can't quite place it, but then his brain seems to catch up and manage to file it away properly.
dimitri. ]
Dimitri?
[ he whirls around, eyes wide, almost hopeful - and there he is, drenched from the rain and.. young.
way too young.
felix all but gapes at the boy in front of him, unable to do anything but cling to his pillow. ]

Ah, Felix!
( His expression brightened, and he made his way towards Felix with a relieved smile. Felix looked surprised to see him, but he imagined they were in similar positions, looking for someone familiar and perhaps, someone safe. )
I've been looking for you and the others. Are you well? ( He prompted, looking Felix over carefully for any sign of injury or discomfort. But there was nothing he could see beside the tight grip on the pillow. He raised a brow at the pillow, but he stopped himself from questioning why Felix was holding it out here. )

felix can only watch as dimitri makes his way over. his gaze drags up and down his body as if to make sure that this isn't just a hallucination or a ghost and, if he stares hard enough, he might notice something out of the ordinary. ]
I.. Yes. Yes, I'm..
[ it's hard to form the words. he can't even pretend that nothing about this is weird - doesn't dimitri notice it too? then again, it's not like felix changed that much over the span of five years. ]
Why.. Why are you so.. young?
[
gosh, felix, you can't ask people why they're young]no subject
And Felix's question? It made his concern for Felix disappear briefly, instead replaced by concern and curiosity. )
I am the age I am supposed to be. ( Dimitri replied carefully, regarding Felix slowly and carefully. He could see it now - that the differences weren't just in a hairstyle and clothing. There was a maturity in his face, more defined angles and lines. But the rest was the same. )
Are you... older?
no subject
I.. see.
[ he sees it very clearly. those bright eyes, that prim and proper appearance.. his younger self prided himself in seeing right through all those things and being able to see dimitri for what he really was, but right now? he almost wants to give into that carefully curated image and make himself believe that this is what dimitri used to be like. young and sweet and so innocent, not at all like the tormented man at whose side he fought countless of battles. ]
I suppose I am five years older than you now.
[ and yet shorter than dimitri. how upsetting. ]

If this place was capable of bringing in people of different ages, he could only assume Felix was used to an older version of him. It made him wonder what that version of himself was like, what their relationship had become. )
You seem troubled to see me this way. ( Though he supposed there was good reason for that. He had were to see a younger version of say, Dedue, Dimitri was certain he would be unsettled. But still, if his presence was causing Felix distress, he would see Felix to a comfortable and dry place before going on his way. )

[ how strange. he rarely finds himself hesitating, always knows exactly what he wants to say-- and yet he doesn't know what words to form. seeing dimitri like this is almost too much to bear. felix treated him horribly when he was younger and yet dimitri always showed kindness and patient for him.
thinking back to all this makes him feel sick. ]
It's unusual.
[ that doesn't even begin to describe how he feels about it. felix takes in a deep breath and clutches his pillow tighter. ]
Say, what's the last thing you remember?
no subject
( Assuming they still saw one another with some regularity. Logically, he hoped his future self might have assumed the throne finally, and if that were the case, he would have dealings with Felix and the others with some frequency. But there was no telling what might have happened in those five years.
Dimitri was kept from dwelling on that particular thought with Felix's question. His brows furrowed thoughtfully, and he folded one arm across his middle, perching the other on it and touching his fingers to his chin. )
It was the night of the ball. The professor and I encountered the Flame Emperor, but they vanished.
( And left behind a dagger he recognized.
His expression darkened slightly at that thought, at knowing such a person had gotten away. )
no subject
Let's say your older self doesn't care much about appearances.
[ ...literally. he seriously needs a haircut and it says something when felix, of all people, demands that someone gets their hair cut.
the mention of the flame emperor makes felix's expression soften and for a moment he looks almost pained. his fingers twitch, but he opts to readjust his hold on the pillow instead of.. doing anything else, really. ]
... I'm sorry about that.
no subject
Dimitri sighed at the thought, idly reaching up to push wet hair away from his cheeks and forehead.
His attention was drawn immediately to the way Felix's expression softened and then changed to something... he wasn't sure. Something different. Even the tightened grip hadn't gone unnoticed. )
You have nothing to apologize for, Felix. ( But it did make him wonder why he was. )

or does it? maybe he'll be trapped here forever. felix always wanted to get away from here as soon as possible, for the simple fact that this strange place is nowhere close to the garreg mach he is used to. it feels restrictive, almost like a prison, and he wants out of it. as soon as possible.
but that doesn't seem possible anytime soon. ]
How is your room, by the way?
[ smooth. felix glances into the still open door leading into his room. the water trickling from the ceiling continues to ruin his bed. ]
no subject
My room? Decent enough, though I believe someone else may have been using it recently.
( There were spots that looked untouched for who knew how long, but there were other places that looked as if someone had been there recently. Was there another version of himself here who might have been using their space? Or was it someone else taking refuge there while their own room was unusable. It was difficult to say, and a part of him felt... unsure about using the room until he knew for sure. )
Is there a problem with yours?
no subject
somehow that's all the more reason to find somewhere else to sleep. ]
The ceiling is leaking and my bed is ruined.
[ he shrugs his shoulders, taking it surprisingly well for a noble who is used to the utmost of comfort usually. but this is felix and he probably sees things like that as another opportunity to prove his strength or willpower. ]
Maybe I'll just sleep in the stables.
