[ It's been a few days since the first arrivals trickled in to this iteration of the monastery, and there's been some improvement to the area, at least.
Which is fortunate, really, because the clouds have finally decided to open up and let out a torrential downpour.
The grass out in the courtyard almost immediately becomes saturated with water, squishing beneath people's feet as they step through it. Drainage in the monastery is a real problem in some parts, particularly near the marketplace area. Slowly, as time passes, pools begin to form, though some of the remaining debris serves as a decent buffer between the water and whatever crates merchants may have left behind. It may be a good idea to salvage some of that, though it's not likely to be ruined thanks to said debris. In general, it's likely a rude awakening for any new arrivals.
Of course, some would say that rainy days are the best when it comes to fishing; some would even say they're right, given how the fish seem to be out in droves at the lake. If one didn't mind potentially getting soaked, they could bring in a real haul during this rainstorm. The dining hall is not nearly as well stocked as it had been in its heyday, so this could potentially be beneficial for the community.
For some, it's likely best to stay inside and find shelter from the rain. Thankfully, most of the monastery roofing seems to be intact, save for a few sizeable holes in the cathedral. Still, that doesn't mean there isn't a leak here and there, so watch your step, particularly in the dining hall and the second floor of the dormitories as well. It might not be a bad idea to put a few buckets out to catch all that water . . . ]

[[ MORE HOUSEKEEPING, hey what's up guys:
- please PM this journal if there are more setting changes you'd like to be noted! i.e. if your character did some sprucing up in the greenhouse, just let me know and I will update the setting page accordingly.
- as noted on the "mod" plurk, I'll try putting up open posts roughly once a week going forward. it'll depend on how things are going, no big. ]]

[She's guesstimating, based on the size of the barrels, and wipes her bangs out of her face as she thinks it over.]
We'd want to be able to replace one in front when it rolled off the one in back.
no subject
[ She doesn't even wait for Bernadetta's response, giving her a smile and a wave instead as she dips back in to grab six of those chair legs. It takes a moment or two, as Hilda briefly checks each to make sure they're about the same.
But, true to her word, she's out again before too long, legs tucked under her arms. ]
How's this?
no subject
[Aaand she's gone.
Honestly, Bernadetta's not sure what use a favor from her is to anybody else, but if it will get these barrels of freshwater put away before the rain stops and the bugs and animals go for it, she's willing to make the deal.]
Those look perfect, thank you. If I heave this up on one side, can you wedge in as many as you can underneath?
no subject
[ There's no "probably" about it — she definitely can, but there's no point in raising expectations.
Hilda stoops down, taking a leg in hand. ]
Just say "when"!
no subject
[Give her a second. Archer arms give her a lot of help, but this is a lot of water in a sturdy barrel.]
O-Okay, now!
no subject
[ She swoops in as Bernadetta tilts it upwards, managing to wedge four of them in there. ]
Okay, I— think we're good? I've got it mostly covered, I think.
no subject
[It worked! It worked! It's a little ridiculous to get so happy over something so small but Bernadetta has been cold and wet for going on an hour and she needs this win.]
Okay, do you want to push it, or grab the leg that gets left behind and put in front?
[The second one is more work and involves kneeling on wet stone, so the choice is clear, really.]
no subject
[ And with a smile, Hilda straightens up and moves around behind the barrel, where she can position herself to push it, holding out the remaining legs to Bernadetta. ]
I'll let you handle these!
no subject
[She can do it! She thinks she can, at least.
It takes crawling, and quick hands to keep the barrel from going too fast or the legs from getting caught in cracks, but eventually the downpour is replaced by the relatively dry air of the Dining Hall.]
...w-we did it...
no subject
Whew! That's one down.
[ Not that. she had the strenuous job at all. ]
no subject
[She pushes her bangs back, and they're wet enough to stay back as she sits down heavily on the floor.]
Um... after a break, would you mind helping me with the rest, miss?
no subject
[ She'd encountered enough discrepencies with her other classmates that the "miss" doesn't really throw her off at this point. Instead, she rolls with it, shrugging. ]
Well, if the guys are going to slack off and not help at all, I guess I'll have to, huh.
[ That's as much of a "yes" as anything else, at least. ]
no subject
[Give her a minute, she used to have to be dragged into group work.]
—Ah!! Oh, I should have tried to find Dimitri... He might have been able to pick up the whole thing.
[Stupid Bernie! You made a pretty girl get her hair all wet for nothing!]
Sorry, Hilda. A-And thank you.
no subject
Last I checked, he was spear fishing. I mean, he probably could, though.
[ Hilda hums with consideration as she fixes her hair. ]
Well? We could take a break and catch him the next time he comes in to drop off a bucket of fish.
no subject
[That... sounds like a good way to slip up and lose a spear, but what does she know? She never learned much about fishing to begin with.]
That might be for the best. It will take a while for the rest to fill up, anyways.
no subject
[ Hilda gives her hair one last good wring before tying it back once more, straightening up. ]
Here, follow me.
[ And with that, she starts walking back towards a table in the dining hall, where a stack of towels sit, folded and ready. ]
no subject
[What, already?
Bernadetta blinks, taken aback, but scrambles to her feet and . follows Hilda over, regardless.]
Okay. Um, did you want me to embroider or repair anything...?
no subject
. . . and promptly drapes it over Bernadetta's shoulders. ]
I want you to sit down and dry off. You have to take it easy until Dimitri gets back!
no subject
[For a moment Bernadetta just stares and blinks, clutching at the towel.]
...oh. Oh! ...thank you, Hilda. I, uh... I guess I wasn't thinking about it.
[Girl, there is literally a puddle forming under you.]
no subject
[ She takes another towel and wraps it around herself, sitting down. ]
no subject
[And brings up an important thought.]
Has anybody been harvesting medicinal herbs from the greenhouse? If somebody got sick we'd definitely need some...
[Bernie no, sit back down.]
no subject
[ She reaches across the table to grab a book, flipping it open to a page filled with other notes about the monastery, and scribbles in something about the greenhouse. ]
I think it's been lower priority compared to the dormitory and gathering other food and everything.
no subject
[Their attempts at reconstruction so far have been... very much the best efforts of a bunch of people who mainly have book diagrams to fall back on. Injuries are less of a possibility and more an eventuality, honestly.]
no subject
[ Like the furniture, it had all been pushed together and set aside — a problem for later, once the bigger issues were taken care of. ]
no subject
[They can’t just wear the same things all the time. Laundry has to get done somehow.]
